US sub-prime fallout, high oil prices, rising CDN$, export-companies in Quebec/Ontario in big trouble
slowing CDN economy, especially in Eastern Canada. Leading to further domestic rate cuts to come this next 6 months.

From today’s paper. As it is now becoming clear, provinces exporting to the US are being disproportionately hurt. (Ontario and Quebec)
Provinces with energy and/or resources and/or farming/fertilizer are doing well due to exports at high commodity prices.

Coal stocks WTN and GCE up 10 x over the past 1/2 year. Coal moving up off bottom after coal companies went bankrupt 1-2 years ago.
