Canadians spending, downturn here

Cyclical downturn has arrived. More evidence is becoming obvious of a Ontario/Quebec recession. Domestic spending numbers are propped up by higher fuel and food prices. Further/growing disconnect is being seen between Eastern Canada (exporting to US) and the rest of Canada (benefiting from higher resource prices)

Paul Volcker still around

Paul Volcker is the guy who cranked up interest rates in 1979-80 from 13 to 20 % and he was the one who was credited with breaking the back of inflation.
Now, I think he is correct in calling the bailout and recklessly low interest rates a mistake. He stops short of blaming greenspan.
